___________________________

The Vance House- Built approximately 1832-1860, this Greek Revival two-story frame house has partial log construction. It is one of the oldest structures in Statesville, North Carolina. This house served as headquarters for Governor Zebulon Baird Vance during his exile from the North Carolina State Capitol in 1865 during the last months of the American Civil War. Governor Vance designated the house as the temporary State Capitol during the period of time Raleigh, NC was under the control of  Federal troops.

This historic home is now located at 501 West Sharpe Street in Statesville, North Carolina.

The Vance House, which was originally located on West Broad Street in Statesville but was moved to Grace Park, is now being restored to its former charm and is open as one of the city's first museums.
